| The Indexing Service Companion can be used on a machine running
Microsoft Windows 95 or any subsequent version of Windows (including XP, 2000, 2003 and
Vista). Access to a machine running Index Server (Windows NT 4.0 Server) or Indexing
Service (Windows 2000 Server and above) is also required. The Indexing Service Companion
does not need to run on the same machine (or even the same network) as the machine running
Indexing Services.
Microsoft's Index Server/Indexing Service can be used within a variety of programming
environments. The Indexing Service Companion is supplied with source code that
demonstrates Indexing Service Companion and Indexing Service usage with ASP (VBScript) and
ASP.NET (C# and Visual Basic.NET).
