- The Website Utility is now able to build a tag cloud for a website. Note that the Create
Website Search Facilities option must be on in order for tag clouds to be generated.

03 January 2008: 3.1 Release
The following new feature was added:
- The Website Utility now has the option to create an ASP.NET Search Facility for a
website. The search facility is created in C#, but can be used from Visual Basic.NET. The
ASP.NET search facility is fully .NET Framework compliant, being class based (with
properties and methods) and returns search results as a standard .NET DataSet which can be
used to populate .NET controls including DataViews and DataGrids. A fully annotated
example search form and search results page is included.
- The product documentation has been updated.
22 November 2007: 3.0 Release
The following new features were added:
- Crawling of secure websites using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is now supported. Links to
SSL pages and websites are now also supported.
- Test site changed to www.softwaredocumentation.info.
- The documentation has been revised.
10 March 2007: 2.9 Release

4 March 2005: 2.6 Release
The following new features were added:
- Embedded styles (i.e. <style> ... </style>) content is stripped from pages
before the content is used for the JavaScript/ASP search engines and the web robot
reports.
- The Website Utility no longer considers URLs to contain HTML if they do not contain a
text content-type. This is significant if your website contains .asp or .aspx URLs that
return non-HTML content, such as dynamically generated images.
- Corrected issues caused by crawling websites containing no hyperlinks.
- The robots=follow meta tag is now understood.
- The Pages with 'Robots NoFollow' Meta Tag section of the Robots Exclusion Report
has been fixed.
- There is a new Table of Contents Prefix to Trim option under the Report
Settings.
- The robots meta tag has been added to the Web Robot Report for each page in the website.
16 December 2004: 2.5 Release
The following new features were added:
- The Site Words Report now includes the approxiate keyword density for each word found on
the website.
22 October 2004: 2.4 Release
The following new features were added:
- There is a new Site Images Report. This contains a gallery showing each image used or
hyperlinked to in the website, and a list of pages in the website that link to that image.
- The Website Utility checks that Start URL and Base URL configuration options contain the
http:// prefix.
- The External Links Report now contains a summary of the external page, image and
download hyperlinks from the website. As such it can be used to assess the number of
outward links on the website.
- FAQ updated in the documentation.
26 August 2004: 2.3 Release
The following new features were added:
- The [Crawling Site] part of the log file now shows from which page each link in the site
was first extracted from - this should help with troubleshooting websites that the web
robot has difficulty in crawling.
- The web robot is now aware of URLs extracted from sites hosted on some web servers
(including Internet Information Server/Internet Information Services on Windows) where a
URL containing "../" is incorrectly assumed to be a valid request for a page.
These links can cause web robots to endlessly loop when crawling a website.
- The page errors report shows where invalid "../" links are present in the
website.
- The General Site Report shows a complete list of pages found in the website.
- There is a new Page Titles Report. Some of the General Site Report has now been moved to
this new page.
- There are further restrictions to the functionality present in the Evaluation Version.
- Added futher improvements to the Web Robot Report.
- Fixed an issue with the HTML Help Output checkbox in the GUI.
- The Pages Sizes Report now lists in separate tables pages that may be too small or too
large for optimal indexing by search engines.
- The Page Filenames Report now contains a Filenames Summary section.
- Tooltips added to GUI.
- The JavaScript/ASP search facility has improved handling of apostrophes in page titles
and descriptions.
- There is a new Site Words Report which lists most of the words found in the website.
- There is a new Robots Exclusion Report which contains details of the robots.txt file
found on the website, as well as any pages that cannot be indexed due to robots.txt
restrictions or robots meta tag restrictions.
4 July 2004: 2.1 Release
The following new features were added:
- The JavaScript/ASP search facilities now allow text in image Alt Tags to be
searched.
- The Web Robot Report has been improved. For each page in the website it now shows the
text from image Alt Tags. It also preserves paragraph and linebreak formatting of
the page content. The list of internal links in each page are now linked so that the
report can be more easily navigated.
- The FrameSet report now shows the target frames of each FrameSet.
- The documentation now describes how to run The Website Utility from the Windows command
line.
- There is a lot less functionality in the Evaluation Version compared to the previous
version.
The following issues have been resolved:
- The handling of URLs with no file extension, e.g. http://www.foo.com/products has been
improved.
- Fixed an issue with the ASP server-side search facility and page descriptions.
- The web robot is more reliable at not crawling non-HTML content such as images.
- Fixed an issue with case sensitivity and URLs which was affecting some reports.
- The Robots.txt configuration option checkbox now works correctly in the GUI.
- URLs with no file extension and a querystring such as http://www.foo.com/home?ID=12 are
now followed by the web robot.
1 June 2004: 2.0 Release
The following new features were added:
- The errors report will display a warning if internal and/or external link checking was
turned off.
- There is a new Site Structure Report.
- The JavaScript search facility word ranking algorithms have been improved.
- The Website Utility now has the option to create an ASP server-side Search Facility for
the website.
- All HTML report pages link back to the main report page.
- There is a new Web Robot Report.
- There is a new JavaScript Report.
The following issues have been resolved:
- The Website Utility will no longer attempt to check URLs prefixed with https, as it does
not support the protocol.
