| The Website Utility contains a number of useful features can be used to
evaluate websites. As such it is of particular value to webmasters and web designers who
need to gain an oversight of what could be involved in redesigning a website for a client. Samples of The Website Utility's
reports will show these reports in more detail. If you want to try The Website Utility
on your own websites, a free trial
version is also available for immediate download.

Useful functionality includes:
Website Page Count Report
The Website Utility can provide a count of the number of pages in a website. This is
usually the most critical piece of information when deciding a budget for a website
redesign!
Overview of a Website's Search Engine Optimisation
The Website Utility prepares reports that provide an instant overview of all of the
page URLs (filenames), HTML title tags and description/keyword meta tags in use on the
website. As such it is possible to gauge whether the website has already had any common
search engine techniques applied to it.
Robot/Crawler View of Website
The Website Utility provides a web crawling robot view of the website which makes it
possible to assess whether the pages in the website contain sufficient content that will
be visible to search engines. Insufficient content on pages is usually a major issue for
websites that have not been built with search engines in mind.
Tag Cloud Generation
An automatic tag cloud
generator can be used to build tag clouds for websites. They also asssist with
checking a website's search engine optimization by showing the major keywords associated
with a website.
JavaScript Content Report
The Website Utility determines the number of lines of JavaScript within each page of
the site. Sites containing large amounts of client-side JavaScript code in each page could
have the following problems:
- Slower download times if each page contains large amounts of JavaScript. Duplicated
JavaScript functionality can usefully be placed into external JavaScript .js include
files, which will save download times because they will only have to be downloaded a
single time.
- Large amounts of JavaScript client-side scripting may mean that the website's
functionality is heavily dependent on client-side scripting, which may affect the
website's accessibility.
- Page content built by client-side scripts may not always be visible to search engine
robots.
Website Errors Report
The Website Utility can optionally check both internal and external hyperlinks. A large
number of broken links will tend to indicate that the website will require quite a bit of
updating of the content.
A large number of broken internal hyperlinks (i.e. links to other pages within
the same website) usually indicates that there are major problems with the website's
design that will need to be addressed. Hint: using "include" files for common
page elements such as navigation can drastically reduce the likelihood of accidentally
building broken internal hyperlinks.
